9 Days in Japan: A Family Adventure Through Snow, Culture, and City Lights
Japan has always been on our travel bucket list, and in November 2025, we finally made it happen. With a mix of scenic nature, cultural immersion, and urban exploration, our 9-day journey was unforgettable. Here's a glimpse into our family adventure across Tokyo and the Japanese Alps.

Day 1 – Arrival & First Taste of Tokyo

We landed at Narita Airport and quickly got our SUICA cards to navigate Tokyo’s efficient train system. After a smooth ride on the Keisei Narita SkyAccess Line, we arrived at our hotel near Tokyo Tower. Dinner was a highlight—our first taste of Japanese halal cuisine at Shinjuku-tei, featuring wagyu gyukatsu and ramen.

Day 2 – Snow Adventure at Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

This was the day we chased snow! We took an early Shinkansen to Nagano and began the breathtaking Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. From electric trolley buses to panoramic ropeways, each segment revealed stunning views. The snow wall at Murodo was magical. After a full day of travel and exploration, we returned to Tokyo late at night, tired but thrilled.

Day 3 – Digital Art & Market Vibes

We visited TeamLab Planets Tokyo, an immersive digital art museum that left us speechless. The interactive installations were unlike anything we’d seen. Lunch at Tsukiji Market was a sensory delight, followed by a relaxed evening back at the hotel.

Day 4 – Cultural Tokyo & Waterfront Views

We started the day in Asakusa, exploring Senso-ji Temple and shopping along Nakamise Street. Renting kimono added a traditional touch to our experience. A scenic Tokyo Water Bus ride took us to Odaiba, where we enjoyed seaside views, the life-sized Gundam statue, and indoor fun at Joypolis.

Day 5 – City Exploration & Family Time

After moving to a new hotel in Otemachi, we spent the day exploring nearby attractions. The Imperial Palace East Gardens offered a peaceful walk, while shopping at COREDO Muromachi and KITTE Marunouchi kept us busy. We also discovered hidden gems like Kanda Children’s Park and Tokyo Okashi Land.

Day 6 – Character Street & Indoor Fun

We dove into Tokyo Station’s Character Street, filled with anime and Ghibli merchandise. Sanrio fans in the family loved the themed stores. The day ended with indoor play at Tokyo Dome City and delicious snacks from Daimaru Tokyo.

Day 7 – Thrift Shopping Tour

This was our fashion hunt day! We explored Shimokitazawa, Koenji, and Harajuku—Tokyo’s top thrift shopping districts. From vintage Americana to quirky Japanese styles, we found unique pieces and had fun discovering local fashion culture.

Day 8 – Family Day & Souvenir Hunt

We revisited our favorite thrift spots and added 2nd STREET Shibuya to the list. After lunch, we wrapped up the day with a visit to Don Quijote for snacks and souvenirs. It was the perfect way to prepare for our journey home.

Day 9 – Farewell, Tokyo

We checked out and took the Narita Express to the airport. As we boarded our flight back to Jakarta, we carried home not just souvenirs, but memories that will last a lifetime.

Final Thoughts:

Japan offered us a perfect blend of nature, culture, and city life. Traveling with family was smooth thanks to the country’s efficient transport system, abundance of halal options, and kid-friendly attractions. If you're planning a trip to Japan, this itinerary might just be the inspiration you need.
